James Preston Lewis


James Preston Lewis was born July 22, 1935 in Normangee, Texas to the parentage of Ed and Almeta Lewis.
He was a member of Mt. Aria Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Choir member. J.P. was a long-time employee of Westmoreland Grocery. You could always find him in the meat market with a smile and story for everyone. J.P. was a faithful Cowboy fan during the good and bad seasons. He loved to BBQ and sing praises to God. He also sang with different gospel groups and choirs over the years before his health failed him. J.P. never met a stranger.
On October 5, 2021, J.P. departed this earth on the wings of angels. He is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Xavier Lewis; sisters, Lillie Pearl Houston, Ella Dean Lewis, Evie Lee Hall, Kathie Alice Dunbar, Mae Edna Smith and daughter-in-law, Opal Lewis.
Left to cherish his memory are wife, Louise Lewis; children, Carolyn Holiday (James), James “Neal” Lewis, James “Dooley” Williams and Alisa Lewis; grandchildren, Lakishia McDonald, Tommy Holiday and Tamika Holiday; great-grandchildren, C.J. McDonald and Cameron Brisher; brother, Jessie Lee Lewis (Lenora); sister, Bettie Donald; special niece, Ginnie Mae Gunther and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws and other family members and friends.
Homegoing services for James were held 2 P.M., Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas. Interment followed in Randolph Cemetery, Normangee, Texas.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Walters Funeral Home, Centerville, Texas.
