Funeral services for Josephine Brown were held on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at noon at Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home in Jewett. Pastor Ezra Johnson will officiate. Interment followed the services at Friendship Cemetery.
Josephine Perkins Brown was born on October 17, 1923, in Jewett, and passed away on July 4, 2021, in Centerville. She lived in Jewett all of her life and attended the George Washington Carver school. She married Zelie Brown and will be laid to rest next to him at Friendship. Josephine was united with Friendship Church at an early age and was a faithful member until recently when her health failed. She was a member of the Regular New Home District Association in Leona for over seventy years.
She is survived by one son, James A. Brown of Houston; numerous grandchildren including Telisha Brown and Trent Brown; numerous great-grandchildren including Tyesha Brown; one sister, Novella Flanagan; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, Zelie Brown; three sons, Joe Brown, Ernest Brown, and Largel Brown; her parents, Oscar & Bessie Perkins; one brother, Otis Williams; and five sisters, Versie D., Emma Ree, Elma Lee, Lula Faye, and Edna Faye.
