Charles Neal Grantland

Funeral services for Charles Grantland, age 81, of Buffalo, and formerly of Dickenson, were held 10 A.M., Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at Walters’ Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo, Texas.  Rev. Alan Grisham, pastor of First Baptist Church in Buffalo, officiated the service and interment followed in Buffalo Cemetery.
Charles Neal Grantland was born February 8, 1939 in Port Lavaca, Texas to Neal Lee & Callie Mae (Truelove) Grantland.  He was a Merchant Marine and a skilled boat repairman and mechanic.  Most people considered Charles a jack of all trades since he had worked in various professions throughout his life including carpentry, boiler-making, a teamster, prison guard and security guard.  He married his wife, Peggy Stapp, in 1957 in Port O’Connor, Texas.  They shared an amazing sixty-three years together.
Charles most loved being with his family.  Many happy memories were made during camping trips to various places, whether in tents, an r.v. or just “roughing it.”  Deer hunting was also a shared interest between Charles’ children and himself.  In his younger years Charles enjoyed working on dirt bikes and motorcycles with his sons, and he usually ended up putting them to work on a boat before the day was over.  Later in life Charles enjoyed quiet times indoors watching his favorite television stations, the western or sci-fi networks.
Charles’ family describes him as the most patient man they have ever known.  He never held a grudge and didn’t have a lot to say.  But when he spoke, it was worth listening to, because his words usually held a wealth of information and knowledge.
Charles had lived in Buffalo since 1982 and was a member of First Baptist Church in Buffalo.  He passed away June 28, 2020 in Waco, Texas.  Charles was preceded in death by both of his parents; sister, Viola Gertrude Bell; granddaughter, Amanda Grantland and daughter-in-law, Kimberly Hawkins.
Surviving family members include wife, Peggy Elizabeth (Stapp) Grantland of Buffalo; sons, Leslie Bruce Grantland of Buffalo and Gregory Charles Grantland & wife, Lea, of Buffalo; daughter, Colleen NaLa (Grantland) Engbrock of Santa Fe; and brothers, Donnie Lee Grantland and Jackie Lynn Grantland, both of New Mexico.  Charles is also survived by grandchildren, Leslie Ann, Holly, Joshua, Adrienne, Richelle, Megan, Kyle, Gage, Drake and Caidence; great-grandchildren, Rhett, Dirk, Dawson, Tavie, Easton, Madison, Jack, Kolby, Xander, Charlee, Kason, Emerlyn and Hope and great, great-grandchild, Noah, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family members.
