James McHenry (Macky) Brantley

Macky Brantley, age 79, of Centerville passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Sunday, October 20, 2019 in Crockett, Texas. He was born James McHenry Brantley March 23, 1940 in DeQuincy, Louisiana, the only child, to Rutlin McHenry & Fay Christine (Rigmaiden) Brantley.
Macky married Melvene Whittington in 1971 and they shared forty-eight years together. He worked in many professions throughout his life including driving a truck and working as a heavy equipment operator. Before his health began to fail he had most recently bought and sold timber for a living. When Macky became unable to work he made sure to regularly check in on his children and grandchildren to inquire where they were working for the day and provide instruction (whether requested, or not) on how to do their job.
In his younger years Macky enjoyed bull riding and going to the rodeo. Later in life, he looked forward to his daily trips to Hopewell Store to drink coffee and visit with the guys. He also enjoyed sightseeing. Macky was liked by all who knew him and loved dearly by his family.
Macky was preceded in death by both of his parents; son, Pat Brantley and grandchildren, Kaleb Brantley and Amy Lyons. Surviving family includes wife, Melvene Brantley of Oakwood; sons, Cork Brantley (Diane) of Buffalo, Shannon Dale “Bull” Brantley (Tina) of Ragley, LA and Kendall Brantley (Wendy) of Centerville; daughters, Mary Sue Duncan of DeRidder, LA and Kim Nichols (James) of Centerville and daughter-in-law, Kim Brantley of Starks, LA.
