Joyce wrote a weekly article on genealogy for the Jewett Messenger for several years. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and organized a local charter, Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT), the Colonial Dames, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC). She enjoyed living on her ranch near Marquez and sitting on her back porch to watch the humming birds Joyce was a Methodist by faith and a very spiritual person.
She is survived by two daughters, Latrelle Coldiron & husband Mike of Houston, and Ora Chamiok & husband Jim of Montgomery; two sons, Markel Petty & wife Amy of Austin, and Mitchell Petty of Tomball; twelve grandchildren, Katie Lewis, Lt.
