Funeral services for Clyde Chatham was held on Saturday, October 5, 2019, at Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home in Jewett. Mr. Mark Wacasey officiated. Interment followed the services at Brushy Cemetery near Marquez.
Mr. Chatham passed away on Friday, September 27, 2019, at his residence in Marquez.
He was born in Marquez on July 3, 1936, attended schools in Leon County, and lived in Marquez all of his life. Mr. Chatham accepted Christ as his Savior and united with the Robinson Chapel Baptist Church in Marquez. He worked as a ranch hand until his retirement and repaired small engines on lawnmowers and did other mechanical work. He was a member of the Marquez Volunteer Fire Department and served as Fire Chief for twenty years. Mr. Chatham enjoyed community service and helping others and did so often. He took care of the grounds at Brushy Cemetery for many years. He was named “Citizen of the Year” in 2014 by the Marquez Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Chatham loved to deer hunt, fish, play dominoes, and raise a garden.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Woods Chatham of Marquez, TX; eight children, Ricky Chatham of Houston, TX, George Wilson of Crofton, Maryland, Ernest Wilson of Huntsville, TX, Vannessa Jackson of Tomball, TX, Nick Porch of Crockett, TX, Tanya Martin of Marquez, TX, Jason Woods of Michigan, and Vanessa Stokes of Richmond, TX; numerous grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mr. Chatham was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lena Young Chatham; four brothers, James Chatham, Jr., Latson Chatham, Dillard Chatham, Sr., Luther Keeling, and Oscar Smith; and two sisters, Christine (Curley) Norris and Cora Craig.
