A life well lived came full circle with the death of Geraldean “Gerry” Eva Baker on Wednesday September 11, 2019. She died at the Jewett home she shared with her eldest daughter and son-in-law. She was 88 years of age.
Gerry was born in Bristol, TN in 1931. She met her husband Stewart Fredrick “Fred” Baker at Ellington AFB when both were stationed there. After living in Houston for many years, she and Fred relocated to Jewett to complete the renovation of the Captain Anderson home they had purchased in 1968. They also owned and operated Jewett Supply Company for 33 years, until Fred’s death in 2007. The couple shared over 55 years of marriage.
In addition to her workplace and family responsibilities, Gerry was very active in her community. She was a founding member of the Jewett Library and Museum, volunteered at events sponsored by the Jewett Area Chamber of Commerce, succeeded in securing a Texas Historical Commission marker designation for the Captain Anderson home and faithfully attended the Jewett Methodist Church, serving both as a board member and UMW circle leader. In later years, attending the Bright Morning Star Bible Circle, visiting with family and friends, crafting, and completing jigsaw puzzles brought her great joy.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her infant son, Jeffrey. She is survived by her five children and their families: Mike Baker and wife Darryl; Barbara Miles and husband Jim; Andrea Weaver and Gary Alvarez; Suzanne Plyer and husband Mark: Jennifer Copeland and husband Bubba; Grandfamily: Sean Baker and wife Katie; Christopher Weaver and wife Amber, Patrick Weaver; Adam Plyer and wife Kandice, Erin Plyer, Kendal Plyer; Cullen Copeland, Conner Copeland. Great-grandchildren: Cody Baker, Sydney Baker, Abigail Baker, Kristian Baker and Wyatt Weaver.
