Funeral services for Ellis (Elias) Cortez, Sr. were held on Saturday, August 17, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at Ephesus Baptist Church near Jewett. Bro. Ray Payne officiated.
Cremation followed the service.
There was no visitation at the funeral home.
Mr. Cortez passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at the Centerville Health Care Nursing Home in Centerville.
Mr. Cortez was born on November 8, 1932 in Deer Park, Texas to parents Genro Cortez and Jose Zamora. He married Gladys Ann Davidson on March 12, 1974 and they shared over 45 years of marriage. Mr. Cortez was a boxer, veteran of the United States Army during the Korean War, and also a loving husband and father. He will be greatly missed and life won’t be the same without him.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Cortez of Marquez; five children, Elaine King & husband Jerry of Edom, Ellis (Elias) Cortez, Jr. & wife Martha of Canton, Zina Sumrow & husband Ray of Tyler, Nick Cortez of Leesville, and Elias Cortez & wife Felicia of Marquez; three step-children, Amador Zuniga & wife Betty of Marquez, Tonya Brown & husband Bob of Tennessee, and Anthony Zuniga & wife Kim of Dallas; nineteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rebecca and Vivian; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
