Mattie E. McCoslin

Mattie E. McCoslin passed away into the arms of her Heavenly Father on Friday, March 15, 2019, at Crossroads Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hearne, Texas surrounded by family and friends at the age of 96 years.
Mattie was born in Evansville, Texas, in Leon County, to Charles A. and Mollie B. Salmons on November 4, 1922.  She graduated from Jewett High School in 1940.  She married her husband E.H. “Doc” McCoslin July 11, 1940.  They enjoyed a marriage of 45 years until his untimely death in 1985.  Never one to give up, Mattie continued to be strong and enjoyed life to the fullest by spending time with family and friends, sewing and gardening. She especially loved spending time at the “cabin” and swinging on the front porch.  Mattie proudly served her Lord by teaching the Friendship Sunday School Class for many years and serving on various committees at First Baptist Church in Hearne where she was a member for nearly 60 years.
Mattie retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.  She was the original “Number Please” and went on to be a pioneer in the communications industry by being the first woman management supervisor over the Hearne Southwestern Bell Central Office and several surrounding community offices.
Mattie was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served as a Worthy Matron.
She is preceded in death by her husband E.H. “Doc” McCoslin, son Jimmy C. McCoslin, her parents and siblings.
To cherish her memory, she is survived by her daughter Alice and husband Edwin Miller of Keechi, daughter Molly and husband Billy of College Station, son Dennis and wife Barbara of Marquez, 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A very special thank you to Sharon Salvaggio for her many acts of kindness and love shown over the years. Also, would like to acknowledge Dr. Imelda Villanueva, the staff and all the wonderful nurses, aides and employees of Crossroads Nursing and Rehabilitation for their loving care and support.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 from 1:00 P.M. – 2:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Hearne, Texas.  Funeral services will follow on Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church.  Burial will be at Sardis Cemetery in Leon County, Texas.  Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Hearne, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church in Hearne, Texas.
