Funeral services for Koleta Walleck Shepherd were held on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home in Jewett. Bro. Phillip Walleck officiated. Interment will follow the services at Concord Cemetery.
Mrs. Shepherd passed away on Friday, January 25, 2019, in Bryan.
She was born in Ganada, TX, on November 6, 1934. Koleta moved around a lot with her family as a child, mostly living in Bay City, TX where she graduated from Bay City High School with the class of 1953. She moved to Houston and went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad where she learned the skill of data entry. Koleta later began her own data entry business and did contract work for several companies, but her main contract was with NASA which she had for many years. She also sold real estate and helped manage rental properties in the Houston area. She married Bill Shepherd on March 7, 1967, and shared almost fifty years of marriage together before being separated by his death on January 22, 2017. She moved to Marquez in 1995 and had just relocated to Bryan in June 2018. Koleta enjoyed traveling, being outdoors, gardening, fishing and she loved her animals. She was a Baptist by faith.
She is survived by two sisters, Faye Westphal of Arizona, and Dorothy Sanders of Houston; four brothers, Valline Walleck & wife Donna of Alvin, Le Roy Walleck of Spring, Joe Walleck & wife Cindy of Crosby, and Gary Walleck of College Station; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including a special friend, Michele Lowery-Barlow of Marquez.
Mrs. Shepherd was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Shepherd; her parents, Virgil & Lillian Walleck; one step-son, Mark Shepherd; and a baby brother, Arthur Frederick Walleck.
Arrangements were under the direction of Bowers Funeral Home.
