Lydia Jane Durant Rider

Funeral services for Lydia Jane Rider, age 85, were held on Friday, July 27, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home in Jewett. Rev. Paula Behrens officiated. Interment followed the services at Union Cemetery at the Las Lamos Ranch in Leon County.
Ms. Rider passed away on July 24, 2018, at Hospice Brazos Valley in Bryan.
Jane was born in Jewett on November 30, 1932, to Marvin C. Durant & Nancy Irene Foley. She was a graduate of Jewett High School, class of 1950. She met her husband of over 57 years in Waco while working for Texas Power & Light. She married James E. Rider on February 14, 1952, and settled in Irving. Together they raised six children. Jane was a dedicated homemaker and mom to her family. As the oldest sibling of four, she was also a rock and strong support to her extended family. She attended St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Irving for many years before settling back to Jewett in 2011 in the house that her father built.
She is survived by sons, JW & wife Maradee of Herndon, VA, Bob & wife Pam of Brownwood; daughters, Martha Hocutt & husband Gary of Buffalo, Marjorie Soderstrum & husband Dave of Kensington, MD, and Shannon Szymczak & husband Brian of Austin; grandchildren, Audry Rider, Jim Rider, Emily Rider & partner Ced Fisher, Heather Mundwiler & husband Roswell, Amanda Shumate & husband Kevin, Stephanie Barnes, Darius Palmer, Jillian Szymczak, Lorrilee Soderstrum, Robert James “RJ” Soderstrum, and Meredith Szymczak; great-grandchildren, Madison Shumate, Maddox Shumate, Ava Rider, Micah Rider, Jensyn Woods, Miles Fisher, and Langston Fisher; brother Elvis Durant and wife Mary of Sachse, sister Maurine Mullins of Jewett, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband James, son Patrick, and sister Bessie Irene Hennesey.
