Rex Allen Stell

Funeral services for Rex Stell, age 93, of Centerville, were held at 2 P.M., Saturday, July 7, 2018 at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas. Rev. John Burchell officiated the service, and interment with funeral honors provided by the U.S. Army, followed in the Centerville Cemetery.

Rex Allen Stell was born December 5, 1924 in Jacksonville, Texas. He was one of three sons born to Joe Allen & Alta May (Montgomery) Stell. Rex’s enlistment into the U.S. Army began an adventure unlike any other. He served in the 390AAA AW BN (S.P.) in Northern and Eastern France, Belgium and Germany. He fought during WWII in the Invasion of Normandy Beach and the Battle of the Bulge. Rex received the Purple Heart Medal March 26, 1945 in Germany, as well as, the Bronze Star and Good Conduct Medals.
Rex married Mildred Louise Buckalew July 21, 1946, and they lived in Houston most of their lives. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a PBX Installer on August 11, 1981. The couple eventually moved to Centerville where Rex enjoyed woodworking, stained glass art, reverse glass painting and flint napping. He also restored a 1963 Jeep and a 1923 and 1927 Model T Ford. Rex and Mildred both shared a love for hummingbirds, deer and other local wildlife.
Rex passed away July 3, 2018 at his home in Centerville. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; wife of seventy-one years, Mildred Stell and two brothers. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
