Billy Gene Bishop

Billy Gene Bishop, 89, of Jewett, TX, passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2018 in Dallas, TX.  Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Day Funeral Home Chapel in Madisonville, TX with the burial to follow at Bedias Baptist Cemetery in Bedias, TX.  Bro. Charles Higgs will officiate.
Billy was born on July 30, 1928 in Bedias, TX to Pliny Plaster (Bish) Bishop and Ethel (Barnett) Bishop.  Billy graduated from Bedias High School in 1946, earned a business degree from Tyler Commercial College in 1947, and honorably served his country as a seaman in The United States Navy.
Billy began his career in the pipeline industry in 1952 and used his experience and connections from welding on pipelines to form Cross Country Pipeline Supply in Jackson, MS.  After serving as President from 1969 to 1976, he moved back to Houston, TX to lead Cross Country Pipeline Supply.  After retiring as President, Billy went to work in sales with Price Supply Company, Inc. of Broussard, LA.
Billy was a life-long Shriner and Master Mason.  His work in the pipeline industry introduced him to some of his lifelong friends.  Billy loved to travel and was an avid golfer, hunter and car enthusiast.  He developed Bishop’s Landing, a residential community on Lake Limestone, where he built his dream home overlooking the lake.  Billy loved to garden and tend to his 12’ tall tomato plants.  He was an expert fisherman and an even better cook who loved to entertain his friends and family with his famous fried catfish.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Marcel Bishop Barnes and Bobby James Bishop; and his nieces, Shelly Barnes Stover and Cheryl Bishop Newland, and his wife’s son, William Merrill McRae.
Billy is survived by his wife, Dr. Jean (White) McRae Bishop; his daughters, Pamela Jeane Bishop Cemino and her husband Jonathan Bruce White, Patrice Lynne Bishop Cates, and Perian Kaye Bishop and her fiancé, Larry White; his grandchildren, Luke Anthony Cemino, Kathrine Rebecca Cemino Stalcup and her husband Sgt. Chance Stalcup, Charlee Christine Cates, and Carree Michael Cates; his great grandchildren, Jordan Alexandria Cemino and Rylen Michael Cates; his niece, Brooke Bishop Foster; the mother of his children, Dora Bishop Halliwell; and his wife’s children, James Robert McRae, Gail Jeane Leslie, and Marsha L. McRae.
Serving as pallbearers are:  Craig Stover, Luke Anthony Cemino, Charles Cates, James Robert McRae, Mark Prihoda, Jack MacDonald, Steven Stover, Tyler Stover, Rylen Cates, Larry White, Raymond Baugh, Wilkie Hayes, Lamar Allen, Jack Douglas, Bill Bishop, Walter Rogers and Ed Roberts.
