Homegoing celebration services for George Murphy, 84, of Centerville, took place Saturday, April 14, 2018, at the Walters Funeral Home Chapel in Centerville. Rev. Harry Garrett officiated the service. Interment followed in the Centerville Community Cemetery.

George Willie Murphy was born in Centerville, Texas on February 25, 1934 to the parentage of Welton and Opal Murphy. He was reared in Centerville. He was a graduate of Frederick Douglass High School in Centerville, Texas. George was a pillar of the family.
He retired as a foreman for Joe and Eileen Sullivan after forty-seven years of service. George was an outstanding cattleman. He had a passion for raising black angus cattle. Likewise, George was an exceptional landscaper. He, additionally, served as groundskeeper for Centerville Community Cemetery.
George was a dedicated member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church. He was a committed servant who ministered as an overseer of the office.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, two brothers and a sister, along with three nephews. George was also preceded in death by his loving and honorable companion, Laura Horn Middleton.
George Murphy closed his last gate and began a new job in God’s Kingdom on April 5, 2018.
He is survived by his only child, Vanessa Horn of DeSoto, Texas; sister, Betty Palmer of Dallas, Texas; brother, Floyzell Murphy of Dallas, Texas; three grand-godchildren, Zausch Rambo, Monie Boucher and Bijuana Stevens and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a loving cousin, Linnie Benson Smith of Dallas, Texas; special friends, Eugene and Pearlie Tryon of Centerville, Texas and a special brother, Carl Gould (Deloris) of Bryan, Texas.
Arrangements were entrusted to Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas.
