Velma Joyce Bartlett


Funeral services for Velma Joyce Bartlett will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at 2:00p.m. at Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home in Jewett. Rev. Paula Behrens will officiate. Interment will follow the services at Sardis Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday with the family present from 6:00p.m. until 8:00p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Bartlett passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at her residence near Jewett.
She was born in Simonton, Texas on December 24, 1938, to L. S. and Ena Pate. Mrs. Bartlett lived in Leon County since 1980 and near Jewett since 1999. She worked as a custodian for Buffalo High School for twenty-three years and was very dedicated to her job. She enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles and listening to country music as well as working in her flower garden. Mrs. Bartlett loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much and attended all of their activities when she was able.
She is survived by four daughters, Cindy Vaughn & husband Jimmy of Dew, Connie Hall of Dew, Cathy Johnson & husband Karl of Jewett, and Carmen Barnett & husband Jasper of Crockett; grandchildren, Chase Hall & wife Rachel, Chelsey Hall & Mike Brown, Chasity Smith & husband Colton, Kobie Boykin & husband Ben, Courtnie Miller & husband John, J. R. Vaughn & wife Amber, Hope Barnett, and Hannah Barnett; fifteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alma Burkett & husband Gene of Porter, and Rosie Requardt & husband Lee of Beasley; one sister-in-law, Zoe Ellen Mellard of Bellville; other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Bartlett was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Dorthy Smidovec, and her husband, Kenneth W. Bartlett, Jr.
