Rueben L. Nickerson was born on August 19, 1943, in Trinity, Texas. He was one of ten children born to English Lamar and Ila Inez (Parker) Nickerson. He worked for Southwestern Bell as a building supervisor in Houston, and in 1994, moved to the Huntsville headquarters when he moved his residence to Leon County. Rueben retired after thirty-three years. He spent his retirement staying busy on his ranch, farming and working cattle and also helping others in need. Rueben was a member of the North Creek Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School Teacher for a number of years.
Rueben passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at his home at the age of seventy-four years.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents; three brothers and one sister.
Surviving family members include son, Jason Nickerson and wife, Kristin, of Spring; daughter, Misty Chumley and husband, Kenneth, of Palestine; brother, Cecil Nickerson and wife, Jackie, of Coldspring and sisters, Juanita Dial of Tarkington Prairie, Jean McDonald of Kentucky, Ann Fuller of Willis and Debra Nickerson of Buffalo. Rueben is also survived by grandchildren, Jude Nickerson and Angela Olson.
Memorial services for Rueben were held at 1:30 P.M., Friday, January 12, 2018, at the North Creek Baptist Church in the Ninevah Community of Leon County. Pastor Jim Grable officiated the service. A private inurnment took place following the service, in the Greer Cemetery in Madison County, Texas.
