Funeral services for William Edward (Bill) Williams, 91, were held on Monday, December 18, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Ricks-Bowers Funeral Home in Jewett. Herschel Smith, Jr. officiated, with Masonic Honors given by Jewett Lodge #427. Interment followed the services, at Sardis Cemetery.
Mr. Williams passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at the Mexia LTC Nursing Home.
He was born in Jewett on November 30, 1926, and grew up in rural Leon County near Concord. He married Lizzie on April 12, 1946, and shared over seventy-one years of marriage together. Mr. Williams served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked in Texas City for the Marathon Oil Refinery for many years as well as worked on air conditioning and refrigeration jobs in his spare time. After his retirement, he returned to Leon County and enjoyed raising cattle on his ranch. Mr. Williams was a member of the Masonic Lodge #1118 in Texas City.
He is survived by his wife, Lizzie Jo Williams of Austin; two sons, Billy Williams and wife Shyrll of Texas City, and Jeffery Williams of Austin; one daughter, Linda Neal of Austin; eleven grandchildren, Stephanie Swanson and husband Ron, Keith Williams, Katherine Bruce and husband Mike, Jeremy Neal & wife Amber, Josh Neal, Jake Neal, Sarah Williams, Alexander Williams, Rachel Williams, Valya Williams, and Alosha Williams; one step-granddaughter, Jennifer Boggs and husband Frank; seven great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Mr. Williams was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
