Lady Cougars add another District Championship

With one game still remaining on the schedule, Leon can already claim yet another District Title. Teague came into the game against Leon last Tuesday trailing the Lady Cougars by a single game. A Lion win would have likely resulted in a tie between the teams and a share of the district title. Senior Kaydee Honeycutt and the rest of the Cougar team would have none of that. They scorched the Lady Lions in three decisive sets, 25-16, 25-16, 25-15. The game plan for the Cougars seems to be to let Honeycutt get the team off to a good start by slamming kills right off the bat. She did not disappoint against Teague. Two hard kills to start set 1 had the Lions on their heels and the Cougars did not let up. Allee Pervis, Rosemary Rivera and Camyrn Davidson added points on offense while Raelyn Theiss, Sarah Grace Merry, Maddie Thomas and Rivera worked the defense. Jordan Robinson continues to be clutch in the assist department. Set one was never close and set two was no different. Rivera to Robinson to Honeycutt was a dominant theme throughout the set. When Honeycutt was not killing the ball, Rivera and Merry got their shots.
Caroline Richmond gave Leon a big boost in set three with strong kills and good blocks. She also added points from the service line with a couple of aces and some unreturned serves. Merry, Rivera, Davidson, Pervis and Honeycutt all added points with kills.
The team played Frankston on Tuesday of this week for the final game of the regular season.  Win or lose, Leon has clinched the District Title for another year.
A pre-playoff warm-up game will be played against the Bryan Lady Vikings this Friday at 5:30 pm at the Bryan High School Gym.
