John “Jack” Michael Downey, 55, died Friday, August 11, 2017 at his home in Jewett, Texas.
He was born March 31, 1962 in Dodge City, Kansas. He is the son of Mike and Elaine (Gleason) Downey. He was a 1980 graduate of Dodge City High School and attended college at Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Oklahoma and Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington, Wyoming. He was in the construction business for over 35 years. He rodeoed for several years and was very proud of his children. He never missed their ball games or any award ceremonies. He had a big sense of humor and a bigger heart. He considered himself a “jack of all trades; master of none.”
Survivors include his children, Amber Wilson and husband, Daniel, Austin, Texas, Dannielle Kuizinas and husband, Josh, Jewett, Texas, Elissa Farmer and husband, Justin, Corsicana, Texas, Brian Smith, Austin and Chris Smith, Austin; his mother, Elaine, Dodge City; his brother, Kelly Downey and wife, Cindy J., Dodge City; two sisters, Michelle Casey, Dodge City and Cindy L. Downey, Kinsley; eight grandchildren; Rebecca (13), Tyler (14) Kaden (13), Kinsley (5) Arabella (2) Austin, Carter (8) Conner (3) and Ava (1) (Robbins). A brother-in-law, AJ Hamlin, Kinsley; his godmother, Sandra Helfrich, Spearville; and many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and two sisters, Sally Scott and Stacie Downey.

Friday September 1st – Prayer Vigil 7:30pm. Saturday September 2nd – Mass @ 10:30am, both will take place at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church 549 S Commerce St, Centerville, TX 75833. Following mass burial will be at his home 2050 CR 494 Marquez, Tx.
Following burial we will have a family gathering with a memorial service and lunch, everyone is welcome at the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church in Jewett.
The family suggests memorials to Providence Hospice of Mexia or Leon Booster Club.
