Joe Grubbs, age 81, of Concord, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 in Bryan, Texas. He was born on January 27, 1936 in Jewett, Texas to Ennis A. and Debbie (Daughtry) Grubbs. At the age of three, Joe’s family moved south, near the coast, and remained there through his childhood and teenage years.
Joe retired from Monsanto Chemical Company in Texas City as an Instrument Technician. While living in Hitchcock, Joe enjoyed restoring old cars in his spare time. In 1991, he moved back to Leon County where he enjoyed the remainder of his life on his ranch working with cattle. In previous years, Joe had also enjoyed spending time fishing when he was able. Not only was Joe a longtime and faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Jewett, but he also served there as a deacon.
Joe was preceded in death by both of his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Grubbs of Concord and daughters, Deborah Ann Watson (husband, Cary) of Houston and Cathy Byrd (husband, Monte) of Bellville. He is also survived by four grandchildren, John Morgan Watson, Laura Ann Watson, Caleb Grubbs Byrd and Hannah Dorothy Byrd.
Graveside services for Joe Grubbs were held at 10 A.M., Friday, June 9, 2017 at the Sardis Cemetery near Jewett, Texas. Bro. Monte Byrd and Bro. Allen Crosby officiated the service.
Pallbearers were Bill Hughes, Rickey Enyart, Richard Ellis, Jerry Robinson, Robert Holmes and Caleb Byrd.
