Gloria Dolores Mercado Malone came into this world on September 6, 1924 and went peacefully in her sleep in the early morning of May 30, 2017. She is now with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Gloria will rest peacefully next to her dearly beloved husband, Dempsey, Sr., in the Eutaw Cemetery in Kosse, Texas.
Graveside services are set for Saturday, June 10, 2017 at the Eutaw Cemetery, Moss Springs Road in Kosse, Texas. After services, Gloria’s family and friends are invited to join in table fellowship at Kosse’s First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall at the corner of Myrtle and Hwy 7, one block east of the four-way stop at Hwy 7 and Hwy 14.
Gloria and Dempsey Sr. settled in Seale, Texas in the early 70s and were very active in this small community. Their claim to fame was that they were there before the inception of Lake Limestone. Gloria was a member of the Oletha Baptist Church and a Charter member of the Lake Limestone Baptist Church. She was the wife of a Eutaw Masonic Lodge #233 member, and an Eastern Star member of #801. Gloria was one of the original nine Directors who constituted the initial Board of Directors of the Seale-Round Prairie Volunteer Fire Department.
Gloria and Ann Jackson ran the waters of Lake Limestone and knew where every crappie hole was and “fished” them till the sun went down. Gloria was a Sunday school teacher and a Vacation Bible school teacher, and never passed up a good game of cards with her friends at Eva Joe’s. Gloria loved Seale and getting involved. Even though she came to the country as a city girl, Gloria transplanted her roots in Seale, Texas and planted her gardens, picked berries, raised chickens, and cooked Dempsey his cornbread and pinto beans.
Gloria is survived by her children, Pat Malone and Dempsey Malone; her brother, Robert Mercado and wife, Carmen; grandchildren, Elizabeth Malone; Katherine Malone and husband, Mike; and leaves numerous dearly beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services and flowers are entrusted to Heartfield-Ritter Funeral Home, Hearne, Texas. Memorials may be sent to the Brenham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at 400 E. Sayles, Brenham, Texas 77833.
