Grace Annette Gillen, 79, of Jewett, passed away peacefully May 4, 2017 in Centerville, Texas.
Grace was born in Houston, TX to Lee and Verna Melasky on April 21, 1938. She helped her parents on their dairy farm in Kurten while she attended Bryan ISD where she later graduated. In 1955, she met and married the love of her life, E.B. Gillen. The couple started the Jewett First Assembly of God church in 1957. Two children and two years later, they moved to Phoenix, AZ where she became a kindergarten teacher. In 1972 the family of six moved back to Texas where she ministered beside her husband in Franklin, San Antonio, Leakey, and back to Jewett in 1986. She enjoyed gardening, rock hunting, reading, and playing with her grandchildren.
Grace is preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Verna, brothers Roy Fuller, Charles Fuller, and Raymond Melasky, a sister Alma Sormani, and three children in heaven.
Grace is survived by her husband of over 61 years, E.B. Gillen; brother Paul Fuller and wife Billie Joyce of Arizona City, AZ; daughter Gloria Neel and husband Robert of Crockett; daughter Ruth Remmers and husband Dean of Chelsea, OK; son Raymond Gillen and wife Elaine of Kerrville; daughter Rebecca Gillen of Jewett; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
All are welcomed to come celebrate her life at the Memorial service May 20, 2017 to be held at Jewett First Assembly of God church at 1:00 pm, with Reverend Michael Gillen of Abundant Life Assembly of God in Bryan-College Station officiating.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Centerville Health Care, St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bryan, and Bristol Hospice for their support in her final days.
