Glendel Wells Johnson was born on November 12, 1929, at his home in Jewett, TX to Lemual and Minnie Johnson. He spent his childhood in Jewett, and joined the U.S. Navy after completing high school. While serving his country, Glendel spent some time playing on a men’s softball team, and even pitched in a semi-pro league. He was always proud to tell stories of his days on the field.
