George Hilery Lewis Jr.

George Hilery Lewis, Jr, 91, of Bedias, TX; passed away on March 31, 2017 in Bedias, TX.  Funeral services were held Saturday; April 8, 2017, at Shiloh Baptist Church in Bedias, TX. Burial followed at Pankey Cemetery in Bedias, TX.  Blane Trant officiated.
George was born on April 14, 1925 in Bedias, TX to George and Bessie Lee (Freeman) Lewis, Sr.
George entered The United States Navy in 1943, trained in Corpus Christi, TX, served in the Southwest Pacific and was honorably discharged in 1945. He re-enlisted in 1946 and served honorably to 1950 when he was again discharged. During this time, he was awarded the following medals:  the Navy Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the Japanese Occupation Service Medal, and the China Service Medal.
Preceded in death by his parents and his half-brother Harvey Hubler.
Survived by his wife, Ferol Jeannine (Jefferson) Lewis; his children, George Wayne Lewis, John Patrick Lewis and wife, Cindy, Cynthia Trant and husband, James Ray, and Harold Lewis and wife, Cindy; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of other loving relatives.
Serving as pallbearers were Robert White, Seth Lewis, Jason Trant, Jeffrey Trant, Mike McKown, and Dennis Klecka and serving as an honorary pallbearer was Steve Biggs.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Pankey Cemetery Association. Day Funeral Home in Madisonville, TX was in charge of the arrangements.
