Funeral services for R. V. Reed, Sr., 90, of Kountze and formerly of Segno, Texas (Polk County) and Leona, Texas (Leon County) were held Monday, December 19, 2016 at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville. Bro. Robert Hall, pastor of the Happy Valley Baptist Church in Kountze, officiated and burial was in the Leona Cemetery in Leona, Texas.
R.V. Reed, Sr. was born on September 8, 1926 in Whitney, Texas to Elmer and Ila Dot (Lovell) Reed. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He worked as a cross country truck driver. At the time of his death, Mr. Reed was a member of the Happy Valley Baptist Church in Kountze and prior to that, he was a member of the Leona Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and being a “Paw-Paw.” Mr.  Reed passed away in Beaumont, Texas on December 15, 2016.
Mr. Reed was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Vera “Jean” Reed who died in 2011; a son, Michael Leon Reed who died in 2016 and by a sister, Patsy Ashmore.
Surviving family include his sons, R.V. Reed, Jr. (Diana) of Livingston, Texas, Wesley Joe Reed of Lakeland, Florida, Clifford Tarver, Jr. (Polly) of Oakwood, Texas and Barry Cauthen (Sherri) of Georgetown, Texas; daughters, Phyllis Herron of Oakwood, Texas, Vickie Charlene West (Eddie) of Warren, Texas, Toni Brice (Willie) of Mexia, Texas and Kathy Parker (Bubba) of Kountze, Texas; brothers, Lloyd Ray Reed and Elmer Reed, Jr. both of Livingston, Texas; sisters, Johnita Lamson of Mena, Arkansas, Helen Spurlock of Porter, Texas, Frances Nelson of Leesburg, Texas and Brenda Gail Reed of Joshua, Texas; thirty-four grandchildren; seventy-four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Bill Ward, Clifford Tarver, James Kennedy, James Walker, James Thompson and Ronnie V. Dunn.
