Graveside services for Jesse Wilcox, 79, of Oakwood, were held Saturday, November 19, 2016, at the Oakwood Cemetery in Oakwood, Texas. Rev. Jack Smith officiated the service.

Jesse James Wilcox was born on August 11, 1937, in DePauw, Indiana to John Elmer and Anice Rogers (Beauchamp) Wilcox. He worked as a longshoreman in the shipping industry. Jesse loved horticulture, and at one time, had a big nursery in Houston. He could grow almost anything if he wanted. Jesse was a member of the Lion’s Club in Conroe and Buffalo and also a member of the International Lion’s Club. In his later years, Jesse spent a majority of his time at Mickey’s Pizza in Buffalo where he soon formed a lasting friendship with the owner. Jesse had lived in Oakwood since the early nineties, coming from Conroe. Jesse passed away on November 11, 2016 at his home.
Preceded in death by both of his parents, his wife, and was the last survivor of eight children.
Surviving family members include nieces, Nancy Sue Stack of Plano, Mary Marie Eddins of Dayton, Anice Marie Hourigan of Sheldon and Nancy Lynn Giles of Montalba; nephew, Rogers C. Hourigan of Dayton; several great-nieces and nephews and a very special friend and confidant, Mickey Edem, of Mickey’s Pizza in Buffalo.
